Recommendations for ordering y-dna SNPs (deep ancestry)
Last update Sept. 28, 2025 The Big Y-700 test is now the golden standard for deep ancestry (it is much better to order this test than SNP packs)
As a result of doing the Big Y 700 test, it is likely that FTDNA will discover new SNPs and so there is an advancement in the Science of deep male ancestry.
Individual SNPs are $40.00 and you just get a SNP value, no matching like with the Big Y 700.
And with the SNP Pack you don't get enough detail for the "time tree" which predicts the birth date of your common ancestor between you and your y-dna match.
Compare the price of the Big Y 700 ($229 to $399) to the less complete SNP Packs ($119.00) and decide.
